Excerpts from Cooper's Moon

It's the new year, and I've been up every night writing--my New Year's resolution is to write at a decent hour. For me the best time is late at night--there are no distractions then.

IBlood Moon Rising, my second novel in the Cooper's Moon trilogy, is finished. We are waiting for the artist to render her cover and interior work. Cathleen Elliott, the designer, is magnificent.   www.flyleafdesign.com -- Check out her book covers when she was art director at Oxford University Press, NYC.  Now she is doing indie work for various publishers.

I'll be sharing with you experiences that I have on the way to writing the Cooper Series--the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Mostly it's been a good trip. I hope you'll enjoy it with me and share your ideas along the way. I will look forward to your comments.

By the way, many thanks to my agent, Tris Coburn, for his hard work in shopping my books to selected publishers. He has always given me sound advice, and for that I thank him heartily.

Finally, a special thanks to my wife, my muse, as I write each evening to the music of Leonard Cohen. She is my inspiration and my untiring reader.

Yet someone else's muse....

I know there was a small cat in the first novel. I have yet to see her appear in the second one even though you are now half way through. BTW: I can't wait until you are back on a normal routine. This 4 AM writing is tiring but your family loves and supports you, "Connie"....even our cat and dog lay at your feet as your type away late into the morning....

Thanks, Muse! Good point. The cat is back. I will check under the porch to see how he's doing.

I can tell by your photo that Leonard Cohen has inspired more than just your writing....Are any song lyrics being penned in the wee hours?

Not yet, Susan! I'm not much good at writing songs. I think that's more like you. Maybe you can come up some good lyrics in the wee hours. I can hear them already!

Professor Conrath is a fascinating individual with a philosophical mind and intense curiosity. In his life-long struggle to shape sense out of chaos, he has created yet another universe wherein an unsuspecting reader may mouth the book's opening lines - only to find himself sucked into the author's cosmic vortex.

Write on!

Hi Richard;

It's been a long time. Happy to see you're doing well, and what is fulfilling to you! We're all getting to the age for much deep thought! Blessedly, I've arrived at my spiritual destination. Still living in Texas, and haven't been back to our old stomping grounds for almost three years. I believe I'll attempt a trip back there this Spring.

Blessings to you and your family!

David

P.S. Maybe I could get an autographed copy of the first of your series!

Hey David--great to hear from you! It has been a long time hasn't it and you are right about reaching that age--I am loving the writing life. It's like being on a continuous adventure. You never know where a story is going to take you. Hope we can get together sometime in the near future! Cathy and I talk quite a bit.

Wow! I love this excerpt and can't wait to re-read (for the millionth time) what is coming next. It looks good, Richard/Connie/Ricardo... all good names for a really good story. Very exciting.

Richard's first two books in the Cooper Mystery Series, Cooper's Moon and Blood Moon Rising will have a grand finale coming out this summer, 2020...In this next book, A Cold Copper Moon, readers will learn what happened to Detective Cooper's son, Maxie. Remember? Max disappeared 8 years ago. I promise I'll give you ample clues, but the end provides quite a twist! Let's see if you can figure it out... I doubt it. No early readers have so far.
